I take street portraits of San Diegans and post their photos on Thursdays. These are the photos for this week.
Collecting the images has become very interesting and rewarding for me. Through the lens of my camera, I’m starting to realize just how special, beautiful, and unique each of one us is.
The idea stemmed from Brandon Stanton’s blog, Humans of New York. Brandon shoots photos of people on the streets of New York every day. Interestingly, I just read that not only does Brandon collect photos from the people he meets, but he tries to elicit a story or quote from each person, as well. I enjoy snapping the photos, but it hadn’t occurred to me to strike up a conversation. Hmmm….
“A human being is part of the whole, called by us ‘universe,’ a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings, as something separate from the rest — a kind of optical delusion of consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.” -Albert Einstein
